Our Progress

Okay so far as a group we have completed our, creative ideas and scheduling, case studies, our draft and final treatment, our feedback from the focus group and are now on task 5 working on the pre-production. this is going very well the group are firing out greta ideas on how we can get this started and i'm very excited to get going! don't worry bloggers i keeop you in the loop with our progress :)

Feedback from Focus Group

Feedback

We put forward our ideas for our group for our short film production and soon realised from this that some changes needed to be made to make our film a success. This focus group was very helpful for our group because, by having newer minds/people looking over our work they were able to see the errors that we as a group failed to realise. The errors that were noted were:

Instead of having our main character as a nerd, we would have the main character as the most popular boy in school that has the beautiful girlfriend but bullies nerds and other unfortunate people. By having this feature, it then gives the reason for why the ghost possessed him. The ghost represents Karma and Karma is out to Nigel because he bullies the unfortunate (the main character)

Another change we would have to change is our montage in the beginning. Instead of having short clips of him being bullied and showing his rubbish life, it would be the opposite. So it would then show his life being great for him and him bullying others.

We also had an ethical issue that drew the attention of the focus group and everyone agreed that it should be taken out to avoid certain issues. What we planned was that because Nigel’s life would be so bad but then he would become a Christian and he feels better with himself and his life starts to get better. This would be a bad thing because the ghost is trying to ruin his life so to do this he tries even harder to make his life horrible and begins to break him down mentally until Nigel has so little self-esteem the ghost possess him. Everyone said that this would raise red flags and cause problems so we had to take it out. That was when the idea of Nigel being popular and not a nerd came in.

With these changes we also had to change then tittle from “Jasper the unfriendly ghost” to “My name is Karma, PUNK!”

So overall this focus group was very successful for our group and we are now focusing on these new things and how we can fit them into our short film.

Treatment

As a group we decded the following things, we are soon going to have a focus group and may have to change our ideas and will do so with a feedback post and a new treatment post.

 

1st Treatment

    Genre- Comedy, Horror because we wanted to use all the convections of a horror film and bring humour to show that some funny things in life are just messed up!

    Length- 3-5mins max!

    Characters- Nigel (main character): unfortunate nerd, who repels everything and everyone, including love, friendship and luck. The only things he attracts are misfortune, bullies, good grades and a very unfriendly ghost who after years has been tormenting him and now has finally broken Nigel down spiritually and is now possess Nigel.

    Ghost, this ghost is very mischievous spirit bent on ruining people’s life, attracted to Nigel because he is an easy target. Ghost was observing kids and saw Nigel

 

Storyline

 

    A montage in the beginning narrating the Nigel’s rubbish life of being bullied, not getting the girl he likes and just general things that have not been going right for him. This would last a minute max because they’d be really quick clips.

    The short film would then start when Nigel wakes up and he has been possessed we would show this by editing the colour of his eyes.

    The middle part of this would be Nigel at college and all these bad things happening some of these would be him bringing up the courage to the girl he likes but then he switches and completely messes up his chances. Another one would be he’s in class and people would be bullying him and he changes on them.

    The ending would be that Nigel is kicked out of college and his home and ends up in a mental home. And with this because the ghost has successfully done his job of messing up Nigel’s life he moves onto his next victim.

 

 

 

Synopsis

 

Nigel is bullied and tormented and attracts the attention of a mischievous ghost. The ghost makes it his mission to destroy Nigel’s life anyway possible. However Nigel found God and his life began to get better. The ghost then tries even harder to destroy his life and makes Nigel loses faith and when he is finally spiritually weakened he gets possessed. Under the ghost’s influence Nigel, now a puppet ruins his life. This then results in him being kicked out of college and home and ends up in a mental home. With this the ghost is happy with his results and moves onto his next victim.

Logistics and Feasibility

 

   in terms of equipment we would be using the normal standard equipment like a HD Video Camera with tripod

   Other equipment we would use in terms of for the actors, contact lenses (for the possession) maybe blood and fake teeth but it all depends.

   Our locations for this short film would be Nigel’s house, his college, the street and woods

 

Ethical Issues

 

    One ethical issue that pops up in the face and may cause red flags is that some people may find the whole thing of Nigel becoming a Christian and then getting possessed. This may cause a problem with our audience and may take it the wrong way and get offended.

Where would this be screened/distributed?

 

   As a group we all decided that YouTube would be the best place for this to be distributed. YouTube is widely known by everyone so it would be seen by quite a lot of people

 

 

 

 

 

hey all i had a intresing but stressful time today with the group, but thats the life of a media group brainstorming ideas. everyone has their own ideas and image of what they want the short film to look like. but we all finally came to a desicion on locations and other elements which was cool!
